tarik sadouma
Sadouma started his career whilst still in art school, with some important creations in the first and second year. He graduated cum laude at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, a prestigious Dutch art school.
For several years he was the CEO of a successful 3D and commercial company in Egypt, doing projects for Hyundai, Coca Cola and others.
Besides this, Sadouma has committed his life to visual arts. Currently he is considered the ‘spiritual leader’ of an Amsterdam based art collective and studio. Sadouma has a fascination with fairytales and storytelling, power in general as well as the (specificity of the) power of women, and the fusions and tensions between ‘Western’ and Middle Eastern culture.
The artist was brought up moving between the Netherlands and Egypt. During his adult life he lived primarily in the Middle East (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon). The dual perspective on both regions infuses all of his works, as a result each work is an interplay of critiques and appreciations of both worlds.
Sadouma is infamous for his ability to (critically) think about art, the art world, artists, philosophers, writers, and other important bearers of culture. The poetica that emerges from this underlies his work and his evaluations of the art he encounters. His main influences are Nietzsche, Baudelaire, Houellebecq, Wittgenstein, and his mentor Frans Oosterhof.
